Recording the screen

Choose what to record, check the sound and start.

You can record into a new project or straight into an open one — the recording is then added to the project as soon as it is saved.

What to record

  • The whole screen. With several displays, choose one.
  • A window. Click a window — it keeps being recorded even if you move it or something covers it. In this mode the camera and drawing are not recorded.
  • Part of the screen. Draw a rectangle on the dimmed screen; you can move or resize it. You can also fit the part around a chosen window — then the camera and drawing work.

Sound

  • Microphone — your voice. Choose the device and sensitivity; the level meter shows whether it's too quiet or overloaded.
  • System audio — what the computer plays: videos, slides with sound. Kaddro's own sounds are left out.

Turn on at least one of the two — otherwise recording won't start.

A 5-second test recording

Before an important recording, make a test. Kaddro records 5 seconds exactly as the real recording would and tells you whether the sound is good, too quiet, overloaded, or whether the microphone hears nothing. You can test the retake marker during it too.

Other options

  • Show the mouse pointer and rings where you click.
  • A 5-second countdown before the start.
  • The folder for recordings: Movies on a Mac or Videos on Windows by default. Files are never overwritten.

Your choices are remembered for next time.

While recording

  • Kaddro's window hides; the recording time shows in the menu bar on a Mac or in the tray by the clock on Windows. Click it to stop.
  • Or stop with ⌃⌘Esc (Windows: Ctrl+Win+Esc).
  • To start a new file without a pause, press ⌃⌘N (Ctrl+Alt+N): the new one starts before the old one stops, so nothing is lost.

When you stop, Kaddro tells you the recording is saved and shows where.
